LEGAL REVIEW SECTION
Headed by : Ms. Angela Bahati ( Assistant Secretary)
Objectives Design and undertake all review activities of the Commission with the view to;-
- Simplify, modernize and improve the content of the law, the law making process, the administration of justice and access to justice.
- Remove obsolete or unnecessary laws and eliminate defects in the law.
- Explore why principles of law, legal procedures and legal institutions may have become inadequate or outmoded.
Functions / Responsibilities
- To identify laws having anomalies or any other defects and suggest ways of remedying those anomalies/defects.
- To identify and suggest laws which the Commission should recommend for codification and simplification.
- To collect Hansard, Bills and Acts from the Parliament for reference.
- To prepare Draft Bills, programmes for consolidation and revision of laws
- To approximate and harmonize Regional and International instruments signed and ratified by Tanzania.
- To provide legal assistance to MDAs on reviewing their laws.
- To review all Reports presented to the Minister and determine what matters have been legislated upon or acted upon by the Government.
- To liaise with on-going legal reform programmes that supports the Commission’s review activities
